Chapter 8-2

Shortly after Mary had been bedridden at home, as if it’s deliberate Alicia’s harassment began.

Her textbook were tear and her uniforms were surreptitiously got spoiled.  Lastly, someone had poured water on her out of nowhere………….. As followed, those were conducts unflattering for proper ladies. Thus, the Student Councils wasted no efforts on searching in the school ground for whomever in guilt.

Especially, the Student Council President Patrick was fervent to cooperate ─ with a calm mind ─ in discovering the culprit.

And then the name that came out after meticulous investigation was ‘Mary Albert’.

“Your engagement with the Student Council President had been dissolved consequently a grudge was born out of it. Wouldn’t that be a perfect motive?”

Toward the Vice-president’s upfront words, Mary responded “Now that you’ve said it, there’s such incident, huh.”

—–Incidentally the one bothered by those arguments was none other than Alicia; placing a hand on top of her shoulder Addie consoled her ‘There’s nothing to be worried about.’——

“Besides, your everyday conducts were scarce to reflect the cruxes of a proper lady.”

The treasurer appended.  Usually having a mild temperament, nonetheless right now his mien was distorted with a crooked smile.

Receiving his judgment Mary deliberately exhaled in vexation “Oh my, that’s terribly rude of you.” ………..albeit many sources that backed his idea weren’t non-existence in reality.

“Alicia’s harassment started after you’d stayed at home to recuperate. While your wealth deteriorated, hadn’t you order your servant to bully her?”

The treasurer directed his regard onto Addie.

Realizing it, was caught in guard, Addie pointed his finger to himself “Are you referring to me!?”

At the same time Mary thought ‘What the hell clicked inside this high and might treasurer’s head, I wonder?’ and studied Addie’s deportment. Without any leeway to be in panic, Addie’s dumbfounded expression looked hilariously stupid.

Howbeit considering his feelings, this was a normal reaction.

“Certainly when Ojou……. Mary-sama had been resting at home I’d been coming to school as well. Nevertheless as the school ended, I went back immediately, hence there’s no time for me to do anything.”

“But according to the reports, you didn’t go straight to Albert Mansion and had visited somewhere first, did you?”

“Yes, that’s……”

She somehow could guess what retort almost slipped out of his tongue, although being treated as a criminal had compelled Addie to show a bitter expression as he answered the inquiries.

Based on his restless tenor, he undoubtedly felt a great dread since the Student Councils members who berated him with questions all came from prestigious families.

“There’s a student who think that you had calculatingly shown yourself leaving the school grounds but to furtively come back later.”

“That’s impossible! Why should I trouble myself over such things!?”

“Then I behoove you to honestly confess, in which you didn’t return at once to the Albert Mansion, where had you gone to?”

“Mary-sama wished to eat croquette thus I visited the suburb to buy them.”

……….

…………….

A hush fell into the area, only Mary faint voice rang, “it’s a source of nutrition!”

“………was that the reason you hurried home?”

“Yes, exactly as you’ve said.”

“Did you truly believe you can make us accept such preposterous reason?”

With how cross the Vice-President sounded, Addie troubled and all placed his gaze on Mary. What should I do………… as if asking that through his countenance, Mary shrugged in response.

Regardless whether they believed it or not, the truth has been told.

Every day, after school ended, Addie had always dropped by the downtown area to buy croquette.  Obviously on Mary’s whims, he’d worried about a sick person consuming oily food but forasmuch as it’s her own selfish wish, it’s irrevocable.

Albeit it’s pretty absurd to force the Student Council Students to swallow the idea, one of them even tilted their head asking ‘What is croquette?’.

Simply because their standards of living were far apart, they had no way of knowing what croquette, foodstuff popular amongst commoner, is.

——–It’s definitely a problem that the lady of Albert House consumed such low class nourishment, notwithstanding this wasn’t the right time to discuss trivial matters. Plus, the after-mentioned individual wouldn’t deter even if they’re being told off——–

Anyway he ought to quickly prove his innocence, Addie opened his mouth to explain further………………

“Hey, could you just admit the truth already?”

And perfectly being shut up by the Vice President exasperated tone.

All things considered, they possibly wouldn’t put their trust whatever happen. Worse off, they’d turn a deaf ear to any self-defenses and shoot it down as a lie, the glare pointed to Mary and Addie acutely dropped another temperature.

Well it’s unavoidable…….. Mary collectedly mused. In what universe precisely there’s a master who ordered her servant to buy croquette when she’s sick…………… no, there’s here in fact. And it’s a lady who impulsively craved for croquette while being struck by fever.

But there’s no time to expound that, moreover giving them any concrete proof, Mary wrinkled her eyebrows and racked her brains.

Assuming this event came from Dora-gaku retribution event, they must have tangible evidence on their hands to convict the Villainous Lady Mary as the chief criminal. All in all what they hold right now was clearly a fake clue, be that as it may from their haughty approaches it’s perchance an exceptionally convincing hints capable of deluding them.

Mary in the game was screaming off her excuses and justifications, exposing her wretched and malicious side to everyone. In conclusion, whatever explication she’d try to convey would not do any better in dissociating her off the ‘villainous lady’ brand.

How problematic……….. Mary sighed.

Being entangled by this one-sided farce, her marginal respect for them was almost plunged to the bottomless end.

Nonetheless, by fallaciously presuming Mary’s sigh as her sign of giving up, the Vice President and followed by the others started to flash their triumphant sneer.

At that very moment, her respect defected to the negative parameter.

“At last you’re willing to concede, huh? We the Student Council will cleanly dispose you.”

“Long story short, you all………”

“…………….?”

As Mary wittingly cut short the Vice-President’s speech, the spotlight shifted to her on a dime.

Facing downward while complaining about how tired she was, she exhaled deeply. Then Mary slowly raised her head………………

Chortling

Her chortle curdled their bloods, despite so it’s disconcertingly seraphic.

That made the Student Council Members including Alicia gaped in awe. Whereas Addie, who had known Mary Albert’s buried smile, was pretty flippant about it, Patrick on the contrary was averting his face as his shoulders quivered.

  3. Yeah, Mary! Annihilate them! I don’t get why Patrick is going along with this crap, but until he reveals why, beat him up! And can’t Addie just ask the owner to testify what he was doing! Glad to see the heroine actually being with them.

    1. Well, there’s actually someone who believes in Patrick here, I’m surprised! But Addie doesn’t have the time to do that while they’re being surrounded. So he must came with something that can rule out their fake evidence at that place to convince them else his Ojou get captured.

      1. I can’t believe Patrick, after all of this, is doing this to Mary. Although I’m fine with him being verbally slaughtered by Mary for the moment, I want to know WHY he did this.

  8. ???? The Vice Prez and the others are trying to make use of this for something. A scandal that would lower the House’s standing? That’s a bit amateur and stupid no? *shakes head* Whatever that is, I hope it gets resolved soon. This is getting ridiculous. Haha, Addie outed his lady’s peculiar taste in food lol.

  9. I’m literally going insane with how often you’re using the word, “howbeit.” Nobody uses that word anymore. Please use “however” instead. It’s pinching and it hurts my brain having to physically transcribe a different word over it every time.

    1. Not even kidding, for some reason you keep using adverbs that google dictionary keeps calling archaic.
Withal. Perchance. Mayhap. Howbeit. It hurts my brain.

      1. No offense, I’m not going out of my way to be confrontational. But you’re a translator, not the author. What you translate should be comprehensible to an english-speaking audience, not just tickle some personal stylistic choice just because. Even as a writer, you write for an audience as much as you write for yourself.

      2. Well, FYI, ‘perchance’ or ‘withal’ isn’t even an archaic term! Hell you’re going out of your way to use google dictionary, then you’re not even ‘an english-speaking audience’ so to speak. Huh!? FYI as well, the author sometimes use polite language to describe the character better, especially Mary’s choice of language, so I don’t think there’s something wrong with me to choose that words. No matter what, translators have always the leeway to use the word they deemed right…….
